Kickass Cosplaying Kid of the Day: 7-year-old Liam Roybal of Keller, who became an Internet sensation after dressing up like Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington (complete with horse-shoe pattern), will get to meet his idol and call out “play ball!” to kickoff Game 4 of the World Series.
From The Star-Telegram:
He drew so much attention that the Roybal family got a call from the Texas Rangers, who gave him two tickets for tonight’s game and asked him to wear his costume and call out “Play ball.”
Liam, who said he would love to play for the Rangers when he gets older, said he has faith in his hometown team and believes they will win tonight.
Like Ron Washington, Liam weighed his words when asked his reaction to all the hoopla.
After a pause, he said simply, “It’s good.”
Art Project of the Day: “How To Explain It To My Parents”: A documentary series featuring abstract artists attempting to explain to their parents what exactly it is that they do.
The brainchild of Lerner & Sander, the Dutch team who brought us The Procrastinators, and once again commissioned by Limboland.tv, the series is a charming exercise in trying to explain abstract art in concrete terms and, for the most part, failing.
But the beauty of it lies in the simple human truth that it bespeaks — whatever we may do for a living and however poorly our parents may understand it, they love us anyway.
Typographic Tees of the Day: Masashi Kawamura’s “T” shirts — a line of tees modeled after five familiar typefaces: Helvetica, Caslon, Baskerville, Courier, and Cooper Black.
Kawamura says:
In the designing process of these shirts, I aimed to capture the character of each typeface and tried to give them a unique look and presence once worn. By collaborating with Itaru Yonenaga, I feel we were able to produce a collection of shirts that is not only conceptual, but wearable as real clothes. I hope you will find your favorite shirt/typeface.
