From the Archives: Cadbury Egg Clip of the Day

Apr. 8, 2012

Easter Madness (can we make this a thing?) continues with this trip down memory lane — a commercial for Cadbury Creme Eggs. Personally, the idea of yolk inside of a chocolate candy shell is gross to me, but this is still one of most memorable commercials from my childhood.

It’s Sundog!

Apr. 8, 2012

Happy Easter, if you’re into that sort of thing! As is such, it gets no better than seeing the First Family’s dog donning bunny ears in this clip to promote the White House Easter Egg Roll, thus proving that even the most powerful American family will do something to embarrass their pet.

The Early Bird Special

Apr. 7, 2012

If you’re feeling nostalgic, wanna see a trainwreck, or you might be a 15-year-old girl, then seeing this kid belt out songs from every Blink-182 album in under a minute may be a good way to start your day. Or you might feel ashamed that you find yourself singing along with some of these jams.

Sudoku Is Serious Business of the Day

Mar. 2, 2012

German finance minister Wolfgang Schäuble was seen concentrating intently during a recent parliamentary debate on the Greek bailout and future of the Eurozone.

Unfortunately, he was concentrating on solving a Sudoku puzzle on his tablet.

A spokesman for Schäuble’s office says the minister was “taking a well-deserved break from normal duties,” but colleagues questioned his choice of timing.

Hey, he was just moving some numbers around.

Say What Now of the Day

Mar. 1, 2012

Rabble-rousing radio host Rush Limbaugh today went all-in with his ongoing ad hominem attacks against the Georgetown student prevented from testifying at the congressional committee hearing on contraception, telling her “and the rest of you Feminazis” that he wants to see videos of them engaging in sexual intercourse posted online.

After calling Sandra Fluke a “slut” and a “prostitute” for wanting to “be paid to have sex,” Limbaugh today demanded “something” in return for “pay[ing] for your contraceptives, and thus pay[ing] for you to have sex.”

That “something,” Limbaugh went on, was for Fluke and other “Feminazis” to “post the videos online so we can all watch.”

Fluke was slated to testify about a gay friend with polycystic ovarian syndrome who needed contraception for medical reasons and couldn’t afford to pay for it out of pocket, which led to serious complications.

The Democratic members of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee penned a letter to chairman Darrell Issa, who rejected Fluke’s testimony and proceeded with an all-male panel, urging him to condemn Limbaugh’s comments.

Political Cat-didate of the Day

Feb. 27, 2012

Political Cat-nidate of the Day: Hank, a 9-year-old street cat running against Virginia governors George Allen (R) and Tim Kaine (D) for Sen. Jim Webb’s vacated seat, is not kitten around: The “purr-oud independent” has already set up a Facebook page, a Twitter account, and a website.

If Hank has a political platform I couldn’t care less what it is. He’s a cat running for Senate. What more do you need to know?

Vote Hank!

Indie Car Ads of the Day

Feb. 27, 2012

Indie Car Ads of the Day: Two blink-and-you-missed-them TV spots for the 2012 Hyundai Azera, which aired during last night’s Oscars telecast, were directed by none-other-than art house landlord Wes Anderson.

Through the employment of his distinctive mise-en-scène, the acclaimed auteur adds an invigorating dash of whimsy to what would otherwise be just another ad for yet another car.

Buzzer Beater of the Day

Feb. 27, 2012

Buzzer Beater of the Day: With less than 10 seconds on the clock in double overtime, Cal Poly Pomona saw the last game of its regular season slipping away when Cal State Dominguez Hills guard Robert Willhite answered DeRonn Scott’s three-pointer with a three-pointer of his own.

Yet stunningly, with 0.6 to go, Pomona’s “Miracle” Mitchel Anderson took a last-ditch shot from three-quarters of the court away and cemented his spot in Broncos history.
