First Look of the Day: Entertainment Weekly scored an exclusive first look at a dark-haired, olive-skinned Jennifer Lawrence playing Katniss Everdeen in Gary Ross’s live-action adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ best-selling sci-fi series The Hunger Games.

“I love this story,” she told the magainze, “and if I had said no [to the role], I would regret it every day.”

The issue hits stands this Friday. The film hits theaters March 23, 2012.

Casting News of the Day: Lionsgate has officially announced that Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth have been cast as Peeta Mellark and Gale Hawthorne, respectively, in Gary Ross’s highly anticipated adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ successful sci-fi novel series The Hunger Games.

The pair join Winter’s Bone’s Jennifer Lawrence who was recently cast as protagonist Katniss Everdeen.

A release date has been tentatively set for March 23, 2012.

Casting News of the Day: The Wrap is reporting this morning that 20-year-old Oscar-nominee Jennifer Lawrence, best known for her role as Ree Dolly in Winter’s Bone, has nabbed the coveted role of Katniss Everdeen in Gary Ross’s live-action adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ best-selling sci-fi series The Hunger Games.

According to The Wrap, Lawrence signed on yesterday after two days of negotiations. She had been the “clear frontrunner” for nearly a week.

Alex Pettyfer (I Am Number Four), Josh Hutcherson (The Kids Are All Right), and Hunter Parrish (Weeds) are reportedly being considered for the part of Peeta Mellark.
