In Case You Missed It of the Day

Feb. 21, 2012

strong>In Case You Missed It of the Day: Ever the private citizen, Stephen Colbert did not address directly the cause of his abrupt absence.

He did, however, make an overt nod to the rumored reason — his ailing 91-year-old mother Lorna. “Evidently, having 11 children makes you tough as nails,” Colbert said, adding “confidential to a lovely lady” before touching his nose, pointing to the camera, and picking up where he left off.

Follow Up of the Day: The Colbert Report Returns

Feb. 19, 2012

Follow Up of the Day: The Colbert Report Returns

Follow Up of the Day: After a short hiatus, The Colbert Report is set to resume production tomorrow according to a Comedy Central spokesperson.

The show aired reruns for the better part of last week after Wednesday’s taping was cancelled at the last minute “due to unforeseen circumstances.”

Though no official statement has been released concerning the reason behind the sudden production halt, sources close to Colbert said he took time off to take care of his 91-year-old mother, Lorna, who had fallen ill.

He appeared to acknowledge these reports on Friday, when he took to Twitter to thank fans on behalf of himself and his family for “their thoughts and prayers.”

Colbert’s guest tomorrow will be award-winning author Ann Patchett.

In Case You Missed It of the Day

Jan. 31, 2012

In Case You Missed It of the Day: Stephen Colbert wasn’t kidding around about regaining control of the SuperPAC he relinquished of to Jon Stewart ahead of announcing his bid to explore a possible candidacy for the President of the United States of South Carolina.

On last night’s show, Colbert confronted Stewart, chasing him all the way from The Daily Show to the Colbert Report, eventually taking the SuperPAC back by force.

The reason for his insistence may have been revealed in FEC paperwork [pdf] released today, which shows that Americans for a Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow — now known as “John Colbert Cougar Super MellenPAC” — managed to raise a whopping $1 million since its inception.

In a supplemental memo, ABTT’s treasurer, Shauna Polk, says she was asked by Colbert to quote him as saying the following:

Yeah! How you like me now, FEC? I’m rolling seven digits deep! I got 99 problems but a non-connected independent-expenditure only committee ain’t one!

Polk makes a point of noting that she “advised Mr. Colbert against including that quote.”

End Of An Era of the Day

Jan. 24, 2012

End Of An Era of the Day: ”With a heavy heart and a spastic colon” Stephen Colbert majorly announced on last night’s Report that he is officially ending his two-week exploration of a bid to run for the president of the United States of South Carolina.

That’s not to say his effort was for naught: He did manage to secure more votes for Herman Cain in South Carolina than every candidate who was no longer trying to win.

Victory!

What’s next for Colbert? Perhaps his biggest task to date: Wresting control of his Super PAC from the hands of the evil Jon Stewart.

Jan. 15, 2012

Politics As Satire of the Day: In the first political ad from Stephen Colbert Jon Stewart’s Super PAC since the Colbert Report host’s “major announcement,” Americans For A Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow targets voters in South Carolina with a very important John Lithgow-narrated question to ponder: If Mitt Romney really believes corporations are people, does that make him a serial killer?

Meanwhile, on ABC’s This Week, George Stephanopoulos grills potential South Carolina presidental candidate Stephen Colbert on his decision to explore a last-minute entry (even though he can’t technically run).
