Follow-Up of the Day: Junior Seau’s Brain to be Studied

May. 4, 2012

 - Follow-Up of the Day: Junior Seau's Brain To Be Studied

The family of Junior Seau, the NFL great who committed suicide Wednesday, will allow his brain to be studied for evidence of damage as a result of concussions.

“The family was considering this almost from the beginning, but they didn’t want to make any emotional decisions,” San Diego Chargers chaplain Shawn Mitchell said. The family wants “to help other individuals down the road.”

A link between traumatic brain injury and depression has been known for years, and there are similarities between Seau’s death and that of former Chicago Bears safety Dave Duerson, who committed suicide last year. Researchers at Boston University School of Medicine found that Duerson suffered from a neurodegenerative disease linked to concussions, and that played a role in triggering his depression.

Simpsons Did It of the Day

Jan. 15, 2012

Simpsons Did It of the Day

Simpsons Did It of the Day: A sharp Redditor named Joelsaurus noticed that the third-quarter score of the New England-Denver game in the third season Simpsons episode “Lisa the Greek“ was eerily identical to the third-quarter score from last night’s Patriots-Broncos game for a good three minutes and 14 seconds until Tom Brady scored another touchdown.

The final score as it appears in The Simpsons (55-10) is only 10 points off the real-world score (45-10).

Redditor initials_games notes that the same episode also correctly predicted that New England would score first (but was off the scoring time by a minute), and that there would be a fumble in the third quarter (but got the fumbling team wrong).

If the episode is correct, the next time Miami plays Cincinnati, Miami will win 24 to 10.
