So This Happened of the Day

So This Happened of the Day: Asking celebrities to the Marine Corps Ball just went next-level: At a Toys-for-Tots event on the Washington D.C.-adjacent Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Marine Lance Corporal Aaron Leeks managed to summon the courage he needed to ask Michelle Obama to accompany him to next year’s Marine Corps Ball.

Much to his surprise, the First Lady consented.

“She said, ‘yes.’ She’d love to go with me,” Leeks said. President Obama still needs to give the date his blessing, but, schedule permitting, Ms. Obama will be by Lance Cpl. Leeks’s side at Marine Corps Ball next November.

Asked what he was thinking, the marine explained that he “knew how supportive the first lady is of the family structure, in general, and especially military families,” and that asking her  out was a “thank you” to Ms. Obama for her kindness.

Leeks told ABCNews.com that he went alone to his first Marines ball, after the two women he asked turned him down

Though he is due to ship out to Afghanistan next month, Leeks expects to be back well in time for the ball.

Kept Promise of the Day

Nov. 19, 2011

Kept Promise of the Day: This week is was Mila Kunis’s turn to keep her promise to attend a Marine Corps Ball with a member of America’s armed forces.

The Greenville Daily Reflector reports that Kunis arrived at the Greenville Convention Center in Greenville, NC, last night to accompany Sgt. Scott Moore to the 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marines’ celebration of the Marine Corps 236th birthday.

“She’s going to get a chance to learn about the Marine Corps and were all going to have a great time celebrating the Marine Corps birthday,” said Captain Scott Sasser ahead of Kunis’s arrival.

Sgt. Moore famously asked Kunis to the ball by way of a video invite that he recorded while in Musa Qala, Afghanistan. The proposal set off a chain reaction that resulted in Justin Timberlake and Kristin Cavallari both receiving, and accepting, their own Marine Corps Ball invitations.

Prior to the event, E! News asked Kunis what she was most looking forward to. “Talking to people and hearing their stories,” she said. “Being a part of something that truly I know nothing about but I’m incredibly eager to learn.”

Kickass Celeb of the Day

Nov. 13, 2011

Kickass Celeb of the Day

Kickass Celeb of the Day: True to his word, Justin Timberlake dropped by Richmond, Virginia, yesterday to accompany Cpl. Kelsey De Santis to her Marine Corps Ball.

The invitation was extended after Sgt. Scott Moore — currently stationed in Musa Qala, Afghanistan — reached out to Timblerlake’s Friends With Benefits co-star Mila Kunis to ask her to accompany him to his Marine Corps Ball in Greenville, NC. She accepted.

Attendees told the River City’s CBS 6 News that Timberlake “posed for pictures and seemed like a normal guy.” Aw.

Your move, Mila.

Follow Up of the Day: Justin Timberlake Accepts His Own Marine Corps Invite

Jul. 16, 2011

Follow Up of the Day: Justin Timberlake followed in the footsteps of his Friends with Benefits co-star Mila Kunis and accepted Corporal Kelsey De Santis invitation to the Marine Corps Ball.

“I’ll tell you what: I accept,” JT said at a press junket for his latest film. “I don’t get asked out. Ever. So I was very flattered by that.” He did tack on a caveat, however: “If my schedule works out to do it, I’d love to do it.”

Kunis, meanwhile, reiterated that she will be attending the Marine Corps Ball in Greenville with Sgt. Scott Moore, despite reports in the media suggesting otherwise. “Never did I say that I was not going,” Kunis said. “People believed it, unfortunately.”

Follow Up of the Day: Marine’s Date With Mila Kunis Back On

Jul. 14, 2011

Follow Up of the Day: Mila Kunis’s Marine Corps Ball date with Sgt. Scott Moore is back on — mostly because it was never off.

According to FOX411.com, the site that brought Moore’s YouTube invite to Kunis’s attention, reps for the No Strings Attached Friends With Benefits star say reports of the date’s death were greatly exaggerated.

“It’s going to be a great experience to meet her,” Sgt. Moore told FOX411.com yesterday, “and it’s going to make the ball more special for everyone.”

Still no response from J.T. to his invite from Corporal Kelsey De Santis.

This Is A Thing Now of the Day

Jul. 13, 2011

This Is A Thing Now of the Day: Corporal Kelsey De Santis — the only female currently serving at the Martial Arts Center for Excellence at Marine Corps Base Quantico — turns the tables on Sgt. Scott Moore’s wingman Justin Timberlake by asking him to attend the Marine Corps Ball with her.

Meanwhile, Billy Bush reported on this morning’s Access Hollywood Live that Mila Kunis will not be going on a date with Sgt. Moore after all due to a work-related scheduling conflict. As I see it, Mila has two choices: Skip the movie shoots and go to the Marine Corps Ball with Sgt. Moore, or be branded a traitor for the rest of her days.

I’m sure she’ll make the right decision.

Follow Up of the Day: Mila Kunis Accepts Marine’s Prom Invite

Jul. 11, 2011

Follow Up of the Day: Mila Kunis has reportedly agreed to go to the Marine Corps Ball with Sgt. Scott Moore of the 3rd Battalion 2nd Marines after he asked her nicely with this video invite he filmed in Musa Qala, Afghanistan.

FOX411 put Kunis on the spot during an interview about her upcoming film, Friends With Benefits, which co-stars Justin Timberlake.

“Have you seen this? Have you heard about this?,” Timberlake asked Kunis. “You need to do it for your country.” A “clearly flattered” Kunis then turned to her publicist to ask about the invitation. After equivocating for a bit, Kunis confirmed her acceptance. “I’ll do it,” she said.

Up Next: Justin Bieber?

Prom Proposal of the Day

Jul. 8, 2011

Prom Proposal of the Day: Sgt. Scott Moore, who is presently serving his country with 3rd Battalion 2nd Marines in Musa Qala, Afghanistan, would like very much for Mila Kunis to accompany him to the Marine Corps Ball in Greenville, NC, on November 18th.

Mila: If you’d like to go, e-mail Scott at gowithmemila[AT]gmail.com. If you don’t want to go, then you clearly hate America.
