Follow-Up of the Day: Tanning Mom vs. Snooki

May. 5, 2012

As if being called the “Tanning Mom” in the annals of world media isn’t bad enough, Patricia Krentcil, was on the receiving end of Snooki’s rant when she called Krentcil “crazy.”

Now, Krentcil is fighting back with her own expletive-laden rant, therefore, causing a rift in the space-tan continuum.

The show follows Pauly as he establishes himself as a professional DJ through a big-time gig in Las Vegas, a warm-up slot on Britney Spears’ tour, and a record deal with 50 Cent.

A second spinoff featuring JWoww and Snooki is currently filming in New Jersey.

Purple Squirrel of the Day

Feb. 9, 2012

Purple Squirrel of the Day

Purple Squirrel of the Day: A purple squirrel caught by a couple in Jersey Shore, PA, has cryptozoologists scratching their heads.

Connie Emert says she told her husband Percy that a purple squirrel had been getting into their bird feeders, but he didn’t believe her. Sunday around noon he checked their rodent trap, “and sure enough, there it was.”

The Emerts claim they had nothing to do with the animal’s unusual color. Several theories have been put forth, including the possibility that the squirrel fell into a port-a-potty or got into some ink or paint.

But Lock Haven University professor Krish Pillai suggested that something more sinister might be afoot.

“That color looks very much like Tyrian purple,” Pillai said. “It is a natural organobromide compound seen in molluscs and rarely found in land animals. The squirrel has too much bromide in its system possibly from all the bromide laced frack water it’s been drinking. I would raise the alarm. This could mean bladder cancer for humans down the road.”

A similar squirrel was spotted in the UK in 2008.

Quote of the Day

Sep. 27, 2011

“I have no interest in policing the content of such projects. However, as chief  executive I am duty-bound to ensure that taxpayers are not footing a $420,000 bill for a project which does nothing more than perpetuate misconceptions about the State and its citizens.”

–New Jersey governor Chris Christie, in a letter to New Jersey Economic Development Authority CEO Caren S. Franzini announcing the vetoing of a tax break benefiting the company that produces MTV’s Jersey Shore.

The tax credit was dubbed the “Snooki subsidy” by its opponents.

Follow Up of the Day: A&F’s Sitch Stunt Backfires

Aug. 17, 2011

Follow Up of the Day: A&F's Sitch Stunt Backfires

Follow Up of the Day: Abercrombie & Fitch Co.’s anti-Situation stunt may have been a “brilliant move” that got them a mention in “every blog from here to Mars,” but a backlash appears to be brewing, with investors pushing ANF shares down as much at 9% to a new low.

According to a TMZ source, A&F never actually reached out to any Jersey Shore cast member, nor was a serious payment offer made to abandon the brand.

Meanwhile, MTV released its own statement in response to A&F’s proposal. “It’s a clever PR stunt and we’d love to work with them on other ways they can leverage Jersey Shore to reach the largest youth audience on television,” an MTV spokesperson is quoted as saying.

Product Replacement of the Day

Aug. 17, 2011

Product Replacement of the Day

Product Replacement of the Day: In a marketing first, national clothing retailer Abercrombie & Fitch has released a statement explicitly asking Jersey Shore cast member Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino to stop wearing clothes manufactured by the company.

Expressing “deep concern” for the association of its brand with MTV’s controversial reality show, A&F ask The Situation and his fellow castmates “to wear an alternate brand” in exchange for a “substantial payment.”

“We understand that the show is for entertainment purposes,” the company goes on to say, “but believe this association is contrary to the aspirational nature of our brand, and may be distressing to many of our fans.”

Ironically, one of A&F’s most popular shirts last summer was a “humor graphic tee” emblazoned with the word “Fitchuation” in an effort to capitalize on the show’s success.

Pickle of the Day

May. 31, 2011

Pickle of the Day

Pickle of the Day: Snooki was spotted walking around Florence in a neck brace a day after crashing a car into her own police escort, injuring two officers. No alcohol was reportedly involved.

Snooki, who is in Italy with her castmates to film the fourth season of MTV’s hit reality show Jersey Shore, initially refused medical treatment, which led to a few raised eyebrows when she emerged a day later sporting the notorious lawsuit accessory.

Speaking of which, Us Magazine is reporting that, while Snooki will likely avoid criminal prosecution, she may face a civil action suit brought against her by the injured officers.

Snooki had her license suspended following the accident — per Italian law — and the officers, who sustained minor cuts and bruises along with whiplash, have up to 90 days to make a decision concerning the suit.
