Precious Puppy of the Day

Mar. 23, 2012

Today is apparently National Puppy Day, and what better way to celebrate than with a feel-good puppy story?

Beyonce the teeny tiny two-week-old puppy was named after the pop singer because, just like her namesake, she too is a survivor.

Born not breathing, Beyonce had to be resuscitated through CPR. Cheating death is apparently a trait Beyonce inherited from her mom, a stray who was almost euthanized.

As if that weren’t enough amazing to last the rest of National Puppy Day, the litter Beyonce was born into was almost aborted.

After all that I think I’m going to need a few dozen more National Puppy Days to calm my nerves. Any objections? Didn’t think so.

Celebrity Baby Pics of the Day

Feb. 10, 2012

Celebrity Baby Pics of the Day

Celebrity Baby Pics of the Day: Proud parents Beyoncé and Jay-Z have launched a Tumblr blog dedicated to the first official photos of their newborn baby girl, Blue Ivy Carter.

“We welcome you to share in our joy,” reads a statement on the site. “Thank you for respecting our privacy during this beautiful time in our lives.”

Giving away baby photos for free at a time when selling pics to gossip rags can net a celeb a cool $14 million is almost unheard of.

Kudos to Hova and Bey, and congrats on your beautiful daughter.

Pop-Culture Pot Strain of the Day

Jan. 15, 2012

Pop-Culture Pot Strain of the Day

Pop-Culture Pop Strain of the Day: Marijuana dispensaries in LA have apparently begun selling a new strain of weed named after Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s new bundle of joy, Blue Ivy.

TMZ reports that “OG Blue Ivy” has been spotted in several pot shops around Hollywood; LAist notes that a medicinal marijuana collective in the Antelope Valley began selling a similar product the day babyonce was born.

Use of the “Blue Ivy” brand was not approved by either Mr. or Mrs. H to the Izzo, but cease and desist letters, if forthcoming, have yet to materialize.

For Science of the Day

Jan. 12, 2012

For Science of the Day

For Science of the Day: A rare Scaptia (Plinthina) horse fly, which has gone unnamed since being discovered in 1981, shall henceforth be known as Scaptia (Plinthina) beyoncae in honor of world-renowned recording artist Beyoncé.

Why? Researcher Bryan Lessard of CSIRO’s Australian National Insect Collection says he felt the fly’s gold-colored abdomen made it “the all time diva of flies.”

“It was the unique dense golden hairs on the fly’s abdomen that led me to name this fly in honour of the performer Beyoncé,” Lessard said, “as well as giving me the chance to demonstrate the fun side of taxonomy – the naming of species.”

MTV VMAs Wrap Up:

Above: Lady Gaga opened the VMAs as her male-model alter-ego Jo Calderone, delivering a gender-bending tour de force that caused Ralph Macchio to become a trending topic before launching into “Yoü and I” supported by Queen guitarist Brian May. (Also, this happened later on and was crazy awkward.)

Beyoncé dropped a red-carpet bomb, announcing that she was pregnant and flashing a budding beybey bump.
