So This Happened of the Day [UPDATED]

Dec. 6, 2011

So This Happened of the Day: Former president and COO of MTV Networks Michael J. Wolf set Twitter atwitter after he tweeted about an hour ago from aboard an American Airlines flight en route to LAX that actor and fellow passenger Alec Baldwin had just been removed the plane.

This was later confirmed by business coach Grant Cardone, who added that Baldwin was kicked off for “abusive conduct.”

Baldwin took to Twitter some 40 minutes later to say that he was “reamed out” by a flight attendant for playing the popular multi-player game “Words With Friends,” presumably after being asked to turn off his mobile device.

No official word from AA on the incident, but I sincerely hope every bit of it is true.

UPDATE: TMZ has a few more details. Apparently Baldwin threw a bit of a temper tantrum after being forced to turn off his phone. He allegedly slammed the lavatory door, which brought the pilot out to see what was going on. It was the captain himself, it seems, who eventually tossed Baldwin out.

A Baldwin rep later commented that he “loves WWF so much that he was willing to leave a plane for it.”

Backstage Drama of the Day

Sep. 18, 2011

Backstage Drama of the Day

Backstage Drama of the Day: Alec Baldwin was all set to play a fictional president of television in the opening video for tonight’s Emmy Awards show, but the 30 Rock star quit the gig after News Corp-owned Fox cut a joke he made about News Corp CEO Rupert Murdoch and the ongoing phone-hacking scandal.

“Fox did kill my NewsCorp hacking joke,” the actor tweeted a few hours ago, “[w]hich sucks [because] I think it would have made them look better. A little.”

Baldwin wouldn’t reveal the content of the controversial jab, but did say he understood why NewsCorp chose to kill the joke.”If I were enmeshed in a scandal where I hacked phones of families of innocent crime victims purely 4 profit, I’d want that 2 go away, 2,” he tweeted.

Fox told Deadline the joke was nixed because the network didn’t want to be perceived as making light of allegations they take very seriously.

Leonard Nimoy stepped in to take Baldwin’s place, and the skit was re-shot without what Baldwin called “the funniest line.”

How About That of the Day

Aug. 22, 2011

How About That of the Day

How About That of the Day: Jimmy Fallon announced today that he will be hosting Saturday Night Live on December 17th — his first time hosting the show he left in 2004.

For die-hard fans of the show (that’s a thing, right?), this announcement comes as no surprise. Indeed, Fallon’s hosting gig was predicted to the month in an SNL skit from 1998, which featured the now-Late Night host haunting Alec Baldwin as the “Ghost of Hosts Future.”

In the skit, which aired on December 12, 1998, Fallon tells Baldwin he will “become a huge star in the future [and] host the show in the year 2011.” The two then travel to December 12, 2011, where Fallon shows Baldwin footage of the former being introduced as host by “Don Pardo 9000.”

Eerie!

You can watch the clip in question here. Baldwin will also be returning to SNL, having been tapped to host the show’s 36th season premiere, which is set to air September 24.
