When Igor Vovkovinskiy, the tallest man in America at 7’8″, needed custom $15,000 shoes to help his surgically impaired feet better support his body, he turned to the Internet for donations. With little more than a heartfelt plea for help, Igor’s website, Igor Needs Shoes, has raised more than $38,000 in donations since March 6.
“Thank you so much to everyone who made this donation drive happen!! I cannot believe my eyes at the amount and the generosity of the people,” Vovkovinskiy said in his latest post. “Thank you all.”

Mirlande Wilson, of Baltimore, Md., claims she won $105 million in the March 30 Mega Millions drawing. Problem is, her co-workers say they bought the winning ticket together as part of the “office” pool.
Of course, this isn’t the first time a lottery winner has been called into question. Just last month, The New York Times reported that a jury ordered a 2009 winner of $35 million to split his winnings with his co-workers after they alleged that his ticket was purchased with their contributions. Same sh*t, different lottery.
No word on how Wilson plans to settle her dispute. Wilson also has yet to produce the winning ticket.

The United Nations has called for passage of an anti-discrimination law after Daniel Zamudio, a gay man who was brutally attacked March 3 in Chile, died from his injuries last week. Zamudio was apparently targeted for his sexual orientation. His four attackers, who have been charged with aggravated murder, beat him for an hour, burned him with cigarettes, and carved Nazi swastikas on his body.
“The case should be seen in the wider context of hate-motivated violence against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons around the world,” said Rupert Colville, a spokesman for the U.N. high commissioner for human rights.

In a reversal from last week’s coverage, ABC News says the police surveillance footage of George Zimmerman in the Trayvon Martin shooting “shows the neighborhood watch captain with an injury to the back of his head,” now that it has been digitally improved by Forensic Protection Inc. The “gash or mark” on Zimmerman’s head would lend support to his claim that he acted in self-defense when he shot Martin.
Meanwhile, over the weekend, The Orlando Sentinel reported that two audio experts believe the voice heard calling for help in the background of the 911 call to police is not that of Zimmerman. One of the experts, Tom Owen — who is chair emeritus at the American Board of Record Evidence — believes the tests indicating it isn’t Zimmerman’s voice would stand up in court.
“You can say with reasonable scientific certainty that it’s not Zimmerman,” Owen said. If he is proved right, then the 911 call would raise questions about Zimmerman’s claim of self-defense.
