Say What Now of the Day

Say What Now of the Day: Asked about his plans following the news that four East Haven police officers were arrested by the FBI for racial profiling of Latinos, the Connecticut town’s mayor, Joseph Maturo, responded that he “might have tacos when I go home, I’m not quite sure yet.”

“The comments by East Haven Mayor Joseph Maturo are repugnant,” said Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy in a statement. “They represent either a horrible lack of judgment or worse, an underlying insensitivity to our Latino community that is unacceptable.”

Maturo attempted to backtrack later, saying he was tired after a long day of work.

“Being tired is no excuse,” Gov. Malloy’s statement continued. “He owes an apology to the community, and more importantly, he needs to show what he’s going to do to repair the damage he’s done. And he needs to do it today.”
