Red Panda Pop-In of the Day: Slide over, Napping Seal Pup — there’s a new adorable home invader in town.
A family from suburban Leshan in China’s Sichuan Province was enjoying a meal outdoors, when it suddenly spotted a red panda climbing down a nearby slope.
“We approached it slowly, leaving the door of our house open, and then the red panda suddenly rushed inside,” the homeowner told local reporters. Neighbors quickly gathered to see the endangered animal for themselves.
There are fewer than 10,000 mature red pandas in existence, according the International Union for Conservation of Nature, which has classified the species as “vulnerable.”
After a bite to eat, a few pats on the back, and some snapshots with locals, the panda was returned to its natural habitat just in time to spend Christmas with its family.
