Twofer Tuesday of the Day: ABC and NBC aired two parallel interviews last night that were both painful to watch, but for very different reasons.
On ABC’s 20/20, Diane Sawyer conducted the first televised interview with Rep. Gabrielle Giffords since she was shot in the head during the 2011 Tucson shooting on January 8th.
When asked by Sawyer on a possible return to congress, Giffords responded, in her limited vocabulary, that she wanted to wait until she was better to make a decision.
This morning, Giffords’ husband, astronaut Mark Kelly, told ABC’s Good Morning America unequivocally that his wife “would like to run,” but has not made an official decision yet.
After The Jump: Bob Costas interviews Jerry Sandusky.
Meanwhile, on NBC’s newly launched news program Rock Center, sports journalist Bob Costas conducted the first interview with former Penn State assistant coach Jerry Sandusky since the child sexual abuse scandal broke.
Sandusky told Costas he was not a pedophile, but regretted showering with young boys. When Costas asked Sandusky outright if he was attracted to underage boys, the disgraced defensive coordinator gingerly replied after some hesitation that he was not.
Questions have been raised as to the legal ramifications of Sandusky’s pre-trial interview.
