Perry Being Perry of the Day: Gov. Rick Perry, who recently admitted he was “a doer, not a talker,” was asked tonight about the speech he delivered at the Cornerstone Action Dinner in Manchester, New Hampshire, last Friday, which many believe may have been given under the influence of medication or alcohol.
“I guess you can do anything you want with a video and make it look any way you want,” Perry said, adding that he “felt good,” and “felt the message got across very well.”
Cornerstone Action executive director dismissed the drunk talk outright, telling The Hill that Perry drank “only water” at the event and “was very articulate.”
Perry’s spokesman Mark Miner also defended the presidential candidate, saying Perry’s behavior was not unusual. “He’s very animated when he talks,” Miner said. “I’m sure you’ll see more of that.”
Austin Statesman columnist Ken Herman, a longtime Perry acquaintance, agreed. “He does at times tend to in speeches overdo it to some extent – sometimes it’s appropriate for the room, sometimes it’s not,” He told CBS News. “He just gets in this mode that I think is supposed to be country folksy.”
