Double-Take of the Day

Double-Take of the Day

Double-Take of the Day: The manager of an Ocala, Florida, ice cream shop couldn’t figure out why she was so short on customers, until one prospective patron revealed the potential cause: The store’s mascot looked from afar like a hooded member of the Ku Klux Klan.

In actuality, the Ice Cream Family Corner and Sandwiches mascot is an ordinary ice cream cone, but manager Liza Diaz told the Ocala Star-Banner that one customer said they “had to think twice before coming in here because I thought it was KKK.” Apparently, the optical illusion was enough to bring an employee at a nearby bank to tears.

Diaz says she’d never even heard of the KKK, but wanted to assure local residents that the eatery was not affiliated with the controversial organization. “We’re a friendly environment, family-oriented,” she says. “We’re not (racist). We’re very friendly, very religious.”
