Have You Seen This Man? of the Day

Jul. 27, 2011

Have You Seen This Man? of the Day

Have You Seen This Man? of the Day: Police in Fairfax County, Virginia, are on the lookout for a “serial butt slasher” who may be responsible for at least five attacks against area women since February.

The suspect’s MO became clear after each victim provided a similar report: A momentary distraction such as a bump or a noise, followed immediately by a slash across the butt with a razor or a box cutter.

“Because it’s such an unusual thing, no one would ever expect something like that to occur,” police spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell is quoted as saying. “They may be walking along and put their hand to their backside and feel it.”

Former FBI profiler Gregg McCrary said it is unlikely the man — described as a 5’6″ heavyset Hispanic male in his late 20s — will stop until he is caught.

Police are asking anyone with information to call 703-691-2131 or phone Crime Solvers at 866-411-TIPS/8477. You can also text TIP187 plus your message to 274637 or submit your tip online.

Self-Surgery of the Day

Jul. 27, 2011

Self-Surgery of the Day

Self-Surgery of the Day: Having lost his patience with a protruding hernia, a 63-year-old Glendale (CA) man attempted an act of self-surgery using a six-inch butter knife.

Glendale PD officers, who arrived at the scene shortly after the man’s wife called 911, found the makeshift surgeon sprawled naked on a lounge chair outside his home with a knife handle sticking out of his stomach. The man managed to remove the knife before the paramedics arrived, only to shove a cigarette into his open wound.

He was placed on a psychiatric hold and rushed to the hospital, where real doctors fixed him up.

A Glendale Adventist Medical Center surgeon offered this helpful reminder to would-be amateur MDs: “It is absolutely impossible for someone to fix their own hernia.”

Duly noted.

This Is All Kinds Of Wrong of the Day

Jul. 27, 2011

This Is All Kinds Of Wrong of the Day

This Is All Kind Of Wrong of the Day: Kymberly Wimberly was all set to become her Arkansas school’s first black valedictorian since 1989.

But, at the last minute, McGehee High School decided Kymberly was to share her spotlight with a white “co-valedictorian” who had a lower GPA.

“When I found out I was valedictorian, I was ecstatic,” Kymberly, who has long dreamt of being at the top of her class, told ABC News. She says the student named co-valedictorian agreed with her that “if the tables were turned, there wouldn’t be a co-valedictorian.”

Kymberly’s mom, Molly Bratton, who is the school’s “certified media specialist,” says she overheard school personnel expressing concern that naming Kymberly valedictorian would cause a “big mess.” Furthermore, when Bratton tried to protest the school’s move at a school board meeting, she was told she couldn’t speak because she had “filled out the wrong form” and would have to wait until after graduation to appeal.

Kymberly and Bratton have filed a racial discrimination lawsuit against the school, seeking punitive damages and a revision of the school records naming Kymberly the sole valedictorian.
