Royally Ridiculous Hat of the Day

Royally Ridiculous Hat of the Day

Royally Ridiculous Hat of the Day: Princess Beatrice’s royal wedding hat is the talk of the memosphere, with a Tumblr and a Facebook page dedicated to Her Royal Highness’s horrifying headgear springing up mere hours after the Philip Treacy ribbon topper made its debut. (Her sister’s quirky crown’s no slouch neither.)

The royal wedding was a veritable meme mine for Internet meme makers. Princess Beatrice’s wearable coat rack joins an illustrious meme court so far composed of  “Make It Stop” girl Grace Van Cutsem (AKA Royal Wedding Girl) stealing the spotlight from the Royal Couple’s first kiss, Kate Middleton macros for the win, and Queen Elizabeth’s smokin’ ensemble.

Oh, and whatever is going on here:

Wedding Dress of the Day

Wedding Dress of the Day

Wedding Dress of the Day: While Kate Middleton’s Alexander McQueen wedding dress by Sarah Burton was quite a sight, it lacks the kind of legendary backstory that separates the contemporary from the instant classic:

This wedding dress was made from a nylon parachute that saved the groom’s life during World War II. Maj. Claude Hensinger, a B-29 pilot, and his crew, were returning from a bombing raid over Yowata, Japan, in August 1944 when their engine caught fire. The crew was forced to bail out. It was night and Major Hensinger landed on some rocks and suffered some minor injuries. During the night he used the parachute both as a pillow and a blanket. In the morning the crew was able to reassemble and were taken in by some friendly Chinese. He kept the parachute and used it as a way to propose to Ruth in 1947. He presented it to her and suggested she make a gown out of it for their wedding.

The dress — modeled after the one that appeared Gone with the Wind — is now on display at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History.

Trump Speech of the Day

Apr. 29, 2011

Trump Speech of the Day: Donald Trump took the stage yesterday at his Clark County GOP-sponsored rally on the Vegas Strip and cursed his way into the news cycle, dropping several f-bombs on topics ranging from schools in Iraq to Saudi Arabian oil.

“Listen you motherf*ckers, we’re going to tax you 25 percent,” Trump said in reference to imported Chinese goods. So, do you want to remind him that his menswear line is manufactured in China, or should I?
