Foul Mouth of the Day: Kobe Bryant got so upset last night after his fourth foul that he apparently couldn’t help but call referee Bennie Adams a “f**king f****t.”
Bryant has since issued an apology-less apology through his team, saying his homophobic slur “should not be taken literally,” adding that his actions stemmed from frustration “during the heat of the game,” and his words “do NOT reflect my feelings towards the gay and lesbian communities and were NOT meant to offend anyone” (except, you know, Bennie Adams).
NBA Commissioner David Stern fined Bryant $100k, calling his comment “offensive and inexcusable.” GLAAD president Jarrett Barrios called on professional sports players “to set a better example for young people who use words like this on the playground and in our schools, creating a climate of intolerance and hostility.”
Meanwhile, comedian Rob Delaney wins this story: “Kobe called a ref “f****t” last night. Apparently he felt the ref’s lifestyle of CONSENSUAL anal sex made him look bad.” Boom.
