Mad Men News of the Day: Though negotiations with Mad Men showrunner Matthew Weiner are still ongoing, AMC has opted to exercise its option with Lionsgate, officially authorizing the production of an undisclosed number of season 5 episodes for a delayed premiere in early 2012.
A statement released to the press reads: “MC has officially authorized production of season 5 of Mad Men, triggering our option with Lionsgate. While we are getting a later start than in years past due to ongoing, key non-cast negotiations, Mad Men will be back for a fifth season in early 2012.”

Stupid Pet Trick of the Day: An adorable shiba inu dials down the volume of its bark on command.
It’s all fun and games until you forget to unmute him and your house gets robbed.

Worst Nightmare Realized of the Day: When a seven-year-old girl in Hanover, Germany, lifted the lid of the toilet in her house, the last thing in the world she expected to find was a seven-foot-long boa constrictor staring back at her. But that’s precisely what she found.
The slithering sewer-dweller eventually made a U-turn down the S-bend, but not before police managed to snap a photo of the literal plumber’s snake.
A wildlife expert, offering a possible explanation, said “[p]eople buy these snakes when they are young and they grow very large very quickly and scare the life out of their owners who try to flush them down the lavatory or release them into the drains.”

Everybody Needs A Hobby of the Day: Urban climber Alain Robert, better known as “the French Spider-Man,” spent six hours yesterday scaling the world’s tallest building, Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, which towers 828m over the United Arab Emirates.
Unlike previous building ascensions, Robert was required by the local authorities to use a rope and harness. “I do understand,” he said, commenting on the safety restrictions. “You know, this is such an iconic building so I can understand that even though they are taking care so much about my precious life, they are also taking care a lot of that precious Burj Khalifa.”

Infographic of the Day: Don’t mind me, I’m just dropping this off and then I’ll be on my way. I hope that’s not a problem.
DIAF of the Day: Remember back in February when Tara Reid claimed she was working on a Big Lebowski sequel, only to be zinged a few days later by Ethan Coen with the quip “I’m glad she’s working on it“?
Well, Coen might change his mind once he finds out she was actually working on it.
As one astute FoD commenter notes, “I always wondered why they didn’t cast the original film with Tara Reid playing every part. I guess they had a good reason.”
