End Of An Era? of the Day: Sweden and Denmark will soon begin allowing postal service customers to pay for postage with text messages in lieu of stamps in an effort to make snail mail easier in the age of electronic communication.
The payment system, which will launch April 1st in Denmark (Sweden launch date TBD), will respond back to text message with a special code to be written on the letter where a stamp would normally be placed.
Posten AB’s head of marketing and development Anders Åsberg says the risk of forgery is the same as with stamps, since both forms of payment are scanned by postal workers.
