Chrome Experiment of the Day: To showcase the versatility of HTML5 (and their browser in the process), Google enlisted the services of Arcade Fire and director Chris Milk to produce “The Wilderness Downtown” — an interactive music video for “We Used To Wait,” which uses Google Maps and Google Street View to incorporate scenes from the viewer’s “old stomping ground.”

You technically need to be running Chrome to view the “experiment,” but it worked just fine for me on Firefox, although your experience may vary.

Camera Effect of the Day: Photographer Jason Mullins demonstrates the so-called “rolling shutter” effect using his iPhone 4 to photograph blades of an airplane propeller.

Mullins says:

For those who want to try this out, just point your simple electronic shutter camera at an object moving parallel to you, preferably fast, and take the photo. The faster the relative speed between you, the more the distortion. Rotating objects go really weird!

Lego Thing of the Day: The Corellian Cheeseburger — Angus MacLane’s mouth-watering reimagination of Millennium Falcon for LEGO Star Wars fan site From Bricks To Bothans’s FBTB MOC Madness 2010 Building Tournament.

From what I understand, she’s capable of making the Kessel Run in less than 12 nomsecs.

Tee of the Day: João Lauro Fonte’s previously featured tee design “Say cheese!” (since renamed “Flash Camera”), which has been criminally sidelined by Threadless despite finishing out the voting phase with an average of 3.36, has happily found a temporary home at TeeFury.

I say “temporary” because TeeFury tees are available for one day only (!), so have at it before it’s gone in a… well, you know.

Adrenaline Rush of the Day: Crocosaurus Cove park — aptly located in Darwin, Australia — has begun offering adventurous visitors a chance to “swim” with saltwater crocodiles inside a five-inch thick, 10ft-tall perspex box which runs along a monorail track across four crocodile enclosures.

From the Daily Mail:

Sallie Gregory, spokeswoman for the park, said: ‘Many people find the opportunity of getting to within a few inches from the jaws of these crocodiles exhilarating.’

‘People often get activity ranging from an aggressive attack to a casual eye-balling and swim past where the crocs are so close that they rub against the cage.’

‘Most of the women who take part say they are happy just to watch the crocodiles while guys tend to want the action and attack.’ […]

‘The top of the cage has two grated doors to stop anything entering the cage and a back up motor and separate chain operates to ensure that in the event of a malfunction, the cage can continue to operate.’

And it just so happens that one of the Crocosaurus Cove crocs is somewhat of a celebrity: He nearly ate Linda Koslowski’s character in the first Crocodile Dundee movie.
